Latvian brand Dzintars ("Amber") dates back to 1849, when Henryk Adolf Briger founded his own perfume and soap factory.
The very first fragrance was created in 1958. Then the company's products were in high demand, which required several times to increase production volumes. The modernization process took place in the 60s, when the construction of a new factory began. After 9 years, the building was put into operation and new equipment was brought from Switzerland, Germany and France. Thus, the technology of production and packaging not only accelerated, but also changed in a qualitative way.
Today the company develops herbal extracts, fragrances, cosmetics and perfumes. Dzintars works with renowned perfumers such as Liliya Osipova, Bronislava Schwarzman, Aina Pashko and Meelda Gulbe. To date, more than two hundred fragrances have been created. Let's talk more about the most popular perfumes.
Ridzinieces Noslepums
In Soviet times, LatvianThe brand released a lot of interesting compositions. But a special place in the hearts of Soviet customers was occupied by the perfume "The Secret of Rizhanka" from "Dzintars". Reviews called them legendary classics, and critics predicted incredible success. And so it happened. The perfume is one of the few that has not been discontinued, and for 25 years now it has been delighting several generations with its captivating sound. In addition, while still at the final stage of development, that is, without a name, the essence won first place in an international competition in the capital of France.
Ridzinieces Noslepums is a passionate, bitter fragrance, where a captivating trio of rose, violet and jasmine flaunts against a backdrop of cool lily of the valley, iris and sensual magnolia.
"Rizhanka's Mystery" is still beautiful, a little old-fashioned, but eternal, like a song about a woman, sung by the most elegant and loving man in the world.
Kristine
80s were very fruitful years for the brand. After Ridzinieces noslepums, the perfume market got acquainted with another masterpiece of the Latvian brand. Reviews of the spirits "Christina" from "Dzintars" recall its exquisite sound with velvety shades with special warmth. Many women admitted that they bought this perfume for their daughters, as the smell of Kristine very subtly emphasized the charm of youth, energized and positive.
Despite its popularity in the late 90s, the fragrance essence has been discontinued. Concerningmodern compositions of the same name, issued under numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4, then they have nothing to do with the vintage perfume of 1980.

Are you a coquette?
Reviews of perfumes from "Dzintars" Kokete singled out only one of all the fragrances, calling it the best manifestation of this characteristic attraction. Get to know him a little better.
Exquisite chypre perfumes have always spoken of the excellent manners and delicate taste of their owner. A sweet combination of sweet peas and a languid rose gives positive emotions from the very first notes of the composition. Then the bouquet is enriched with accents of figs, white jasmine and blackcurrant. Approaching the final chords, "Coquette No. 1" is fragrant with wood against the background of bergamot and exciting musk.
Reveranss
Composition "Curts", released in 1992, belongs to the group of floral fragrances. Those who were lucky enough to become the owner of the original bottle in their reviews of the "Curts" perfume from "Dzintars" admired their gentle and sensitive sound. The following ingredients served as the basis for achieving such a warm, sometimes enveloping smell:
- Top notes of ylang-ylang, tuberose, neroli & bergamot.
- Heart: rose, jasmine, lily of the valley & tonka bean.
- Base: vanilla, amber, musk & leather.
In the late 90s, perfume was discontinued. Later, the composition of Reveranss was changed, and in 2011 on the shelves of stores under the old namea completely new perfume from "Dzintars" appeared. Reviews of the updated fragrance called it intriguing and romantic - the smell of a woman of mystery. The olfactory pyramid is represented by the ingredients:
- Top notes of lemon, lily of the valley & nectarine.
- Heart: rose, carnation and tuberose.
- Base: white musk, cedarwood & floral amber.
Dzintars Intriga №1
There should always be intrigue in a person's life, because it gives us the desire and strength to strive to conquer peaks and discover the unknown. Reviews of the perfume "Intrigue" from "Dzintars" call them an atmospheric fragrance, whose floral-oriental fragrance will reveal itself on the skin with all its versatility.
Introduction to the composition begins with exquisite violet, complemented by the luxury of rose, the coolness of lily of the valley and the bewitching accents of ylang-ylang. The sound of the heart lies in the astringency of carnation, which smoothly and gently turns into chords of vetiver and jasmine, slightly sweet, but deep forest notes, enhanced by patchouli. The end of the magnificent olfactory pyramid is benzoin resin, which gives "Intrigue" vanilla shades. Followed by the sound of labdanum, warm amber and exotic sandalwood.
Miss
The largest number of reviews about the perfume "Miss" from "Dzintars" was left about the bottle at number 1. The customers called it the true embodiment of summer. Indeed, the most striking accents of this season are guessed in the smell of the composition. In the initial notes, the sweetness of apricot and apple flowers sounds, the intoxicating aroma of lilies of the valley andhoney fragrance of jasmine with tenderness of rose petals. Slightly harsh, but invigorating shades of citruses and juicy tangerines are harmoniously woven into the "heart". As a result, everything smoothly flows into the base, where the favorite ingredients of the Latvian brand and many famous perfumers reign: sandalwood, musk and white amber.
Ridziniece
"Rizhanka" appeared in the late 60s - early 70s and was a concentrated perfume for special occasions. The fragrance belonged to the group of floral fantasy perfumes. The original vintage composition was presented in a classically styled cylindrical flacon containing the following notes:
- Top accords: aldehydes, lilac, lily of the valley and mandarin.
- Heart: hyacinth, carnation, gardenia & jasmine.
- Base: heliotrope, civet & musk.
In their reviews of the perfume "Rizhanka" from "Dzintars", the customers were upset that it is becoming more and more difficult to find this fragrance every year. At the end of 1980, it was discontinued, and today Ridziniece is found only in private collections.
It is worth noting that Ridzinieks cologne, which became a worthy partner of women's perfume, was no less popular. The main components of the olfactory pyramid were bitter green notes with hints of expensive tobacco. The initial chords of "Rizhanin" were revealed by bergamot, petitgrain, orange and fleur de orange. In the "heart" the fragrance of lavender andclove intertwined with vetiver, sandalwood and patchouli. In the base there were accents of oak moss, musk and amber. "Rizhanin" turned out to be a very calm and dense aroma. Although in many reviews of the spirits "Dzintars" the masculine sound was emphasized, Ridzinieks is still very far from brutality. Rather, it would be ideal for women who prefer warm oriental perfumes with hints of spices. However, the language does not turn out to attribute "Rizhanin" to the group of compositions "unisex".
Vintage cologne production stopped in the 90s.
The French lost their noses
In her review of the perfume "Opera" from "Dzintars", perfumer Natalya Stasyukevich noted that the composition is a complex combination of top, middle and base notes that can be heard even the next morning. The nose first begins to recognize the fragrance of lemon tree flowers and green water lily buds. A little later, accents of jasmine, freesia and royal lily are revealed. The last component plays the main violin in the fragrance. Finally, the base features musk, sandalwood and Peruvian balsam, lending vanilla freshness, clove nuances and honeyed warmth to the drydown.
Of course, the townsfolk care what they smell. But it is they who more often acquire what they see "around and everywhere." It is clear that we are talking about world-famous brands that invest big money in the promotion of their new products. Fans of "Dzintars" were surprised and at the same time delighted when they learned that their favorite brand rushed to the front line, wanting to push back popular foreign manufacturers. Although you will agree, the task is not easy. In addition, it's no secret to anyone - people from the times of the USSR got used to the fact that the Riga factory works only for middle-class buyers. And here is such a loud statement: Dzintars is moving to the premium level! On the other hand, why not? Why are they worse?
In many reviews of the perfume "Opera" from "Dzintars" buyers compared them with the perfume Opium from YSL. Perhaps the similarity lies in the fact that now the brand uses natural essential oils that French perfumers work with. In any case, according to Natalia Stasyukevich, "Opium" is not a competitor to "Opera". We note only one thing: when the novelty from YSL appeared, in some places visitors were forbidden to "wear" them. Therefore, during the development of the Opera essence, not only the positive, but also the negative aspects of the French colleague were taken into account. Thanks to this approach, buyers liked the novelty. The smell turned out to be festive, but at the same time strict and unobtrusive.
Solo
Female composition "Solo", recommended for special occasions, was supposedly created in the late 80s. The exquisite fragrance of the original perfume was based on aldehydes, lily of the valley and jasmine. The fragrance was produced in two bottles: with a ceramic insert with a metering spray (30 ml) and a polished vessel with a screw cap (3.8 ml). After 10 years, the company stopped the production of Solo.
In 2000fans were in for a surprise: the Latvian brand changed the composition of the original essence and the perfume "Solo" from "Dzintars" appeared on the shelves again. In reviews of the new product, it was noted that the modern interpretation had nothing to do with the original and was characterized by a completely different smell. So it is - a bright, stylish and energetic perfume was based on the following notes:
- Top accords of freesia, damask rose & peach.
- Heart: sandalwood, ylang-ylang, carnation.
- Base: cedar, vetiver, musk, patchouli.
The updated version of Solo attracted buyers with a harmonious combination of tartness and sweetness. However, finding a composition from 2000 is becoming more and more difficult every year. In numerous reviews of the Solo perfume from Dzintars, buyers ask the Latvian brand to resume the release of the first fragrance, arguing that later perfumes of the same name have nothing to do with Solo from the USSR. Do you think the company is simply ignoring requests, or is there another reason?
Why aren't 80s-90s fragrances being relaunched?
As it turned out, representatives of Dzintars repeatedly received letters with requests to return compositions that were popular in the USSR. In this regard, in order to clarify the situation and not return to this issue, a note appeared on the official website of the company, where 3 reasons were indicated that prevent the resumption of the production of perfumes of the 80-90s.
1. Reviews about the spirits "Dzintars" claim that the productsthe brand is able to resurrect memories and remain in memory for a long time. The company is very pleased to read such comments, but life does not stand still, everything changes, including the fashion for smells. Today, the perfume market is undergoing a process of radical rejuvenation, trying to be relevant and in demand by the new generation.
2. Dzintars has a special department for analysis of consumer requirements, which comprehensively approaches the release of new fragrances, satisfying the changing needs of customers. Unfortunately, if the composition is not in demand, it is discontinued.
3. The requirements for using raw materials to create essences have changed. The lion's share of the components that were part of the beloved Soviet spirits can no longer be found. There are also rules that perfume brands must ensure the safety of use. It is important to comply with the provisions of European and national standards. Unfortunately, many essential oils have been found to be allergenic, so their presence in perfumes is limited or even banned.
