Long tunics are one of the most sought-after items in both summer and winter wardrobes. The variety of their styles and colors is simply amazing: in this variety you can find one that seems to suit any event in life.
History of tunics
Tunics as a piece of clothing appeared in ancient Rome. Both men and women wore them, but it was indecent to appear in public in a tunic - after all, in those days it was something like underwear. The first tunics were two pieces of linen sewn together with cutouts for the arms and head. The nobility wore long snow-white tunics with trains of heavy fabric, decorated with draperies, stones and lace. The common people wore shorter, knee-length tunics in muted, greyish colors.
How does a tunic compare favorably with other wardrobe items?
The first and most important advantage is the visual correction of the figure. Long tunics are ideal for both full women and thin ones. In the first case, the tunic, thanks to its flowing, free form, will not emphasize flaws, but will visually stretch the silhouette in a verticaldirection, allowing it to look harmonious and attractive.
For skinny girls, a tunic, on the contrary, will add shape. A loose cut will give the silhouette femininity, make the curves more inviting and attractive. A loose long tunic can be emphasized with a belt at the waist, visually forming an hourglass silhouette, which is so lacking in thin girls.
How to choose a tunic for the season?
There are a great many models of tunics: they differ in length, in cut, in colors and, of course, in material. The long tunic - is the piece of clothing that can rightly be called universal in terms of weather and temperature. The only question is what materials it is made of.
For the cool season, you should choose models from a denser material. Externally, warm tunics resemble simply elongated knitted sweaters. If the tunic is long-sleeved, then it can be worn just like a dress, without adding any additional wardrobe items to it. But if the tunic has short sleeves, as a rule, it is worn over a tight-fitting or fitted T-shirt, shirt, golf or sweater.
Summer tunics are very diverse. Tunic-shirt, tunic-dress, tunic-t-shirt - all these summer models are usually sewn from light fabric. Summer tunics most often have short sleeves, but there are models both with three-quarter sleeves and without them at all. The neckline is most often V-shaped, round or boat, collars are also foundand collars.
Slender girls can afford any bright, even flashy prints and colors of tunics, girls with shapes should prefer more monophonic, calm models.
Long tunics with slits are very popular, since it is in the summer that such a detail on clothes looks most interesting and appropriate. The cuts on the tunic can be located not only on the sides, but also on the back. It is very convenient and practical, as in such clothes it is comfortable to stay in the heat for a long time in summer. Side cuts divide the hem of the tunic into two parts, and it is not necessary that these parts should be equal in length. Sometimes the front of the hem is shorter than the back. It turns out a tunic-mullet. This style is now very popular and is at the height of fashion.
Where to wear a tunic?
Of course, there are many models, many of which are acceptable to wear in the office with a not very strict dress code. But the tunic is still more of a more informal style. Tunics (both winter and summer) are ideal for meeting with friends, for walking around the city and outdoor recreation (when combined with leggings, jeans or trousers).
Returning to the theme of the office, I would like to say that there are models that will be acceptable to wear to work, such as long tunic shirts. They can be combined with office trousers, or, if the tunic is long enough, worn as a shirt dress. Of course, the tunic for work should be light and plain. If any relaxations in the dress code are allowed, then the colors should be as restrained and organic as possible: light small polka dots are allowed, a light translucent strip without pronounced contrasts.
What to wear with a long tunic?
You can wear tunics with almost anything. They go well with any things and make the image noble and sophisticated.
It is important to consider the following: the vast majority of tunics have a loose fit, so the bottom for them should be chosen more tight-fitting, or at least straight. Too loose trousers will make the silhouette too shapeless. We work with contrast (loose tunic and fitted trousers) to create a harmonious silhouette.
A similar rule works with colors: if the trousers are bright and noticeable, the tunic should be more pastel, soft, muted, and vice versa.
Long tunics can be worn with skinny jeans, straight leg jeans, skinny pants. Many wear them with denim and cotton shorts, this option is more suitable for young people.
Very light, translucent tunics are, in fact, beachwear: they are worn with swimsuits.
Tunic dresses are worn in the same way as regular ones. If the tunic dress is of a calm basic shade (white, beige, gray, black, dark blue), you can combine it with unusual tights. Small polka dots, a narrow vertical stripe (it always has a good effect on our figure, visually stretching and lengthening it) or a small mesh will look very fresh and interesting. By the way, the original tights are suitable for girls who havethere are no visible flaws in the figure below: on large legs, stripes, polka dots, mesh and other decorative patterns will look ridiculous and ugly. Unfortunately, for the office, such options are most often unacceptable.
Tunic shoes
Tunics are very loyal to the choice of shoes. Winter and demi-season models can be worn with boots, over the knee boots, ankle boots, boots, sneakers, sneakers, etc. More strict tunics will go well with ballet flats, pumps, boat shoes or shoes with small heels. Long tunics in the photo will look great with high-heeled shoes, because the vertical silhouette will visually stretch the legs, and the heel will lengthen them even more due to the rise.
Tunic accessories
With the choice of accessories for a tunic, there are usually no problems either. Again, harmony works on contrast (the simpler the tunic, the more bright and pretentious jewelry we can afford, and vice versa). Pendants, necklaces and necklaces are selected according to the neckline of the tunic. The larger and more revealing the neckline, the longer the jewelry can be worn.
