Manicure in purple tones is a rather obliging and difficult choice. The mystical, royal color is demanding both on the costume and on the color of the skin. The only thing that makes things easier is the sheer variety of purple hues.
Shades of purple
There are 196 of them in the Pantone palette. Not so many when compared with shades of green (376 shades). However, it is enough to realize any image and mood in manicure: from noble to frivolous, from gentle to sexy. Purple has two main components: blue, red. Accordingly, shades can vary from colder (more blue) to warmer (more red). Also, the nature of the color depends on saturation (light-dark) and mutedness (from bright and clean to dusty). Also, the shade can contain a pronounced proportion of green, giving warm, brownish shades of purple. These are four parameters to consider when choosing a color for a purple manicure. The most popular shades of purple:
- Lavender. Contains a pronounced proportion of blue. Lavender and rose are one of the most successful combinations for gardeners; in manicure, lavender is often complemented by the delicate color of pink roses, white, turquoise.
- Purple - no less delicate, butwarmer tone.
- Glycine. The Panton system describes many medium and dark shades of purple with a large proportion of blue: the color of blue clematis, oriental violet-blue, violet-blue, etc. Grey-lilac is called glycine.
- Violet - the color of the Uzambara violet. It can be called classic purple. It contains a significant proportion of blue, is medium in saturation.
- Orchid - the color that is so often seen in "phalaenopsis" orchids. A rich, vibrant shade between classic purple and pink. In 2014, the Pantone Color Institute selected Radiant (Shining) Orchid as its Color of the Year. The shade number in the classification is 18-3224.
- Purple is a bright rich pink-purple. Very similar to orchids. In the Pantone palette, lighter shades are called orchid shades, dark ones are purple.
- Lilac color is quite difficult to define, because there are a lot of lilac varieties: from blue to purple. In everyday life, lilac is most often called warm, thick, with a pronounced share of purple, shades of purple.
- Fig - very dark, warm, deaf, with a well-defined brown tint.
- Grape - dark, rather muted, warm shade. In the Panton palette, grape color has a code 18-3211 TLC, rich grape - 18-3220 TLC. Under certain lighting, grape-colored varnishes give out burgundy notes. Close to wine color, but even warmer.
- Eggplant - verysimilar to a rich burgundy, but with a share of blue. Rich, dense color.
- Plum - according to the Pantone palette, very similar to fig, but a little colder. In everyday life, dark, thick tones of purple are called plum.
- Blackberry. Blackberry color is thick, almost black. Polishes of this color may appear black in certain lighting conditions.
What colors to combine purple in manicure?
There are a lot of options. Everything is decided by the idea and the chosen image.
Romance, freshness, lightness, youth:
- lavender + soft pink, blue, mint and cold green shades;
- glycine + dusty pink;
- delicate violet-blue shades + ivory, pink-lilac.
Adult, chic, sober options are warm or dark shades of purple. They will look spicy with a warm restrained range: fawn-orange tones, muted peach, rust. Exquisite and expensive with shades of blue and green of the same nature (dark emerald, spruce, oceanic). Most often, dark purple is combined with neutral ones: silver, gold, black, white, milky and, of course, with closely related colors of purple. In practice, combinations of dark purple with other dark colors are difficult and unjustified, so the best partner for dark purple, if you want to stay in the dark range, is black.
Purple manicure is the most commonlilac, lavender, purple shades. The last one is the most versatile.
If you choose the right shade of "partner", then purple can be combined with any colors:
- This is the same purple that looks very tasty with warm pink shades: apricot, peach.
- Purple + red, pistachio, light olive and other warm greens are exotic.
- Pairs well with yellows, especially gold tones (royal looks).
- Combinations of deep purple tones with metallic colors look luxurious.
- East is purple with peach and orange hues. Or the image of the "tropics".
- Pair purple with turquoise for vintage looks.
- For haute couture looks with brown tones (chocolate, bittersweet, milk chocolate, tan).
- Beige, white, cream, anthracite - neutral universal "partners".
Black and purple
Stylish "partnership". In the photo below, the current matte manicure in purple and black tones. Please note that black is used sparingly. The combination of purple with black or gray is very much appreciated in interior design today, especially for high-tech style. It is active, dominant, even overwhelming, yet rich and expressive.
That's why the simplest designs are chosen for black and purple manicures. Suitable graphics, moderate monograms, emphasis on1-2 nails.
Pink and purple
Pink is another perfect match for purple, just choose the right shade of pink for warmth, richness and mutedness. Manicure in pink and purple tones is not only a barbie style. Yes, pink and lilac, especially if the surface of the varnish shimmers with a candy sheen or resembles chewing gum in texture, they really look girlishly cute and frivolous.
But it is possible to achieve a more serious effect. Combining pink with dusty lilac, you can get very delicate, feminine compositions that will fit perfectly into a casual style, and will not cause doubts in the good taste of their mistress. It is important to supplement such a manicure with hand-painted. A more expensive look to a pink-purple manicure will give graphic motifs and a choice of deep shades of purple. Shades of lavender and wisteria will look soft and unobtrusive. The cold tones of purple create a warm contrast with pink that is pleasing to the eye.
Fashionable and unfashionable manicure 2017-2018
In fashion:
- Short or medium length nails.
- The length of the free edge is 1-2mm.
- Shape - oval and almond.
- Shape - rounded square.
- Emphasis on 1-2 nails.
- Playing with textures and light (matte, velvet, glossy, metallic, shimmering).
- Refined shades. Including purple. Interesting unusual combinations.
- Matte and powdery accents. Matte manicure, its softness and eleganceenjoy great popularity today.
- "Puff smile".
- Colored moon manicure, colored jacket.
Deprecated: excessive decorations, abundance of rhinestones, too long nails, stickers (high-quality images on the nails are drawn by hand).
Of course, no one canceled democracy in fashion. Nothing prevents wearing any design, even one that can be considered over, as long as it is justified in a way, or just a pleasure.
Current Techniques
Cat's eye polish with a prismatic effect that mimics the brilliance of chrysoberyl (a stone better known as "cat's eye"). Such a coating looks great on its own, but today it is actively supplemented with a nail design, enhancing and emphasizing the beauty of the main tone. The precious sheen of cat's eye lacquer pairs very well with rhinestones, which often look gaudy on other surfaces.
Monogram. Initially, monograms are the initial letters of the name and surname of a noble nobleman, drawn with intertwining lines and forming an exquisite pattern. Such patterns were endowed with symbols corresponding to the status of the owner (count, baronet, king). They decorated clothes, household items, jewelry. Modern monograms on nails are no less refined and evoke associations with luxury. They are usually performed by masters who have completed a special training course, during which they “put their hand” and teach the technique of applying beautiful, perfectly round, clear, balanced lines in thickness (the tip of the curl should tend to zero, and not roughlybreak off). For an experienced master, creating an accent of monograms on one nail does not take much time, so this luxury is quite affordable. Most often, monograms are used to create accents and are drawn in one color. They are self sufficient. But monogram lace can also look very beautiful. Please note that in the photo below the pattern is applied to the nails with a transparent coating, just such a neutral background will be optimal.
Powder. Acrylic powder is applied to the entire surface of the nail. Either the base is dried, a pattern is applied to it, sprinkled with powder, and only then dried in a lamp. Excess powder is brushed off. Thus, the effect of velvet printing is obtained. Below in the photo - a manicure in purple tones using powder in a fashionable design today - an imitation of a knitted fabric.
Ombre effect (gradient). Stretching with smooth transitions from darker to lighter, or from colder to warmer, enlivens the main tone. The design of a manicure in purple tones with an ombre base can be very simple, or you can do without it altogether if you achieve stretching in interesting shades, for example, purple to light green or turquoise. Stretching is performed on each nail or all nails are perceived as a single canvas, performing a gradient on all nails at once. The option of vertical stretching on all nails is more contrasting (the step from warm to cold is smaller). In order not to overload the manicure, a minimal decor has been added.
Kamifubuki. In fact, they are not new, they are just sets of sequins, colors and sizes that are well balanced among themselves. But the presentation of the old product in a new way, and even with an exotic name, appealed to fans of nail design.
Rubbing - but this decor can be called a revolution. Five years ago, creating a high-quality metal manicure was quite difficult, bloggers competed in the accuracy of applying varnishes, stickers or foil. It was fundamentally important to achieve a perfectly flat surface of the nail plate. Otherwise, a brilliant manicure looked like the creation of an amateur who stuck culinary foil on his nails. Thanks to rubbing, that is, brilliant pigments of the finest grinding that are rubbed into the surface, the result today can be perfect. Chrome, silver and gold nails, mirror shine is no longer a problem.
Matte - looks very stylish, but disappoints many in operation. Indeed, matte shades are quickly overwritten, the manicure fades after a week, although many can wear regular gel polish for 3-4 weeks. On the other hand, for many women, such wear is not a disadvantage, because they prefer to change their manicure more than once a week, and regrown nails with a “bald” smile line (for those who have fast growing nails) look untidy, and the manicure still has to be changed every 3-4 days.
Professional painting. In addition to the already mentioned monograms, there is Chinese painting (as a rule, these are graceful flowers), dot painting (Paint Point), volumetric painting with 3d gels (imitationdew, tears).
To the piggy bank of ideas: where to look for inspiration?
Any professional master has a portfolio of work that can be taken as a sample. But it is much more interesting to offer your own manicure ideas in purple tones. Classic plots and themes of drawings, except for floral motifs: any animals, insects, birds, exotic prints (zebra, leopard, snake, peacock), abstraction and graphics, stripes and polka dots, any styles in clothing, interior design, characteristic patterns and textures for these trends (from biker rivets to the exotic plant art deco style), the world around and life (the culture of various countries, their symbols), landscapes and nature. The most important thing is to skillfully stylize the idea, that is, to simplify the life phenomenon to a schematic representation. If this is done correctly, then the composition on the nails will be stylish. But sometimes nail designers are likened to hyperrealist artists - in this case, the skillful drawing of the chosen plot will be a plus of the design.
Flower motifs
The most popular subject for manicure is flowers. In nail art courses, training is usually divided into several stages, from simple stylized flowers to complex and naturalistic ones. They train the same flower in different style options (several types of poppies, daisies, roses, lilies, peonies, lotuses, sakura flowers). Talented experienced craftsmen willingly use more rare flowers in nail painting: cornflowers, gardenias, exotic monstera leaves. For manicure in purple tones with a "flowers" pattern, likeas a rule, plants of a related range are selected: orchids, lilacs, roses, peonies. In the photo below, a very simple, almost childish floral pattern, but, in general, it looks great. This effect is achieved by contrasting the airy watercolor pattern and rich purple color on other nails.
Short or long
The opinion that you can't walk around on very short nails is hopelessly outdated. On the contrary, the purple color is so active that it looks great on short, strict nails. It is easy to verify this by looking at this material again: in almost all the photos above, the design is made on short nails.
Some more purple manicure options for short nails:
- Stylish - deep blackberry color and accent on one nail. Instead of a shimmery coating, you can implement any thematic pattern.
- Noble - smoky colors are universal, suitable for women of all ages. Delicate, tasteful, goes with everything.
- Minimalist. Violet color is self-sufficient, depth and mystery are inherent in it. You can create a lot of beautiful designs based on it, or you can use it solo. It is enough to cover all nails with varnish of an interesting shade of purple, highlighting one finger with a modest accent, for example, with a "bubbles" pattern.
It can be assumed that these manicure options will not go out of fashion for a long time. New techniques appear monthly, clients themselves and nail masters need constant novelty. But modern nail fashion is alreadygives so many possibilities, and in good taste, that there is no need for revolutions in the next few years.
