Professional nail shops stock nail silk. Some people think it's new. In fact, silk has long been used to strengthen nails. He first appeared in the arsenal of manicure masters in 1934 in France. With a piece of silk and glue, you could mend a broken corner, seal a crack, or give weak nails the necessary rigidity.
Since the advent of acrylic extensions in the sixties of the last century, silk is forgotten. But weak nails continue to need strengthening, and silk comes to the fore in a new quality. When silk is used
Now silk for nails is used in cases where it is necessary to repair the nail in the most inconspicuous way. The use of gel or acrylic materials creates unwanted thickness. A nail elongated in such ways stands out from the rest. The purpose of the repair is not achieved.
Otherthe case is the use of thin durable materials under the general name "silk for nails": natural silk, linen, fiberglass, fiberglass. Some masters, in the absence of this material, successfully use tea bags made not of paper, but of synthetic fiber.

When the nail broke

At first, this does not lead to a crack, but after several such folds, it can already straighten out, keratin fibers are torn in its thickness and there comes a moment when the nail itself cracks, and then breaks.
This usually occurs in the lower third of the nail bed at the side ridges. The crack is painful, and it is not possible to simply cut the length to it. This is a classic case for the use of silk. A small piece of material is cut with special small scissors to fit the nail plate and carefully adjusted to its size.
One of the means tofixing the silk on the nail fixes it and leaves it until the crack or rupture is completely healed. Such a “patch” can be covered with varnish, gel polish or any other material, including extensions.
Instructions for use
To repair the nail, there are special kits containing everything you need. It contains silk (in a roll or already cut patches), glue, sometimes acrylic powder. It is convenient to take it on the road. At the workplace of the manicurist, a hand sanitizer, a degreaser, a solvent for glue, files and buffs, an acrylic brush and a monomer, silk scissors, and various varnish materials are added to it.
The following devices are prepared at home before the procedure:
- Scissors.
- Nail repair silk.
- Alcohol based degreaser.
- A nail polish remover.
- Cotton and orange sticks.
- Lacquer base and top.
How to repair a nail with silk:
- The nail is cleaned and degreased with alcohol.
- Cut out a piece of silk according to the size of the nail.
- A thin layer of glue is applied to the nail.
- Spread the cut silk over the nail using an orange stick.
- Immediately remove the glue that has flowed onto the side rollers with an orange stick. If the glue has had time to dry, clean it with a cotton swab dipped in nail polish remover.
- If necessary, impregnate silk with glue on top and sprinkle with acrylic powder.
- The free edge is processed with a nail file,getting rid of excess silk and forming a beautiful shape of the nail.
- Buff polish the surface of the nail.

How to strengthen nails with silk

With a manicure lamp and the necessary materials, it is possible to perform nail lengthening even for a non-professional in this way. To make the elongation large, this method will not work. CNI technologists recommend a different technique for this case.

To significantly lengthen the nail, they use not only nail silk, but also special gels. At home, not everyone can perform such a procedure: you will need to purchase special professional gels and have the skill of substituting a form.
Procedure description:
- Perform standard nail preparation for artificial nail application.
- Cut the silk over the nail.
- A bondex is applied to the nail.
- A base gel is applied to the nail and the cut silk is sunk into it, after which it is dried in UV.
- Spread the naillengthening bed with pink gel, UV dried.
- Substitute the form.
- Smile gel is applied to the free edge, dried in UV.
- Reinforce with stretch gel, dry in UV.
- The nail is modeled with a transparent gel, dried in UV.
- Remove dispersion, filing and polishing the nail.
- Coated with top gel, dried in UV, remove dispersion.
To keep a thin layer of glue well, use designs: glitter, rhinestones, various sparkles. If there is a wound on the nail, do not use glue, this will cause irritation. Sometimes a "patch" can be made by sticking two pieces of silk "criss-cross".
