Essential oils are widely used in all areas of our lives. We use them in cosmetics, perfumery, he alth and household purposes. There are a number of oils that are known and most commonly used. Citronella oil for some still seems exotic. But it deserves to be known and adopted.
Where does citronella oil come from
Unusual for our ear, the name is fully consistent with its origin. Citronella grows in tropical areas, in particular, on the territory of the mysterious Sri Lanka. This perennial herb grows to 1.5m tall and has a bizarre appearance, with thin, long leaves clustered at the top of the stem.
The name "citronella" is phonetically similar to the word "citrus", and this is often misleading to ignorant people. In fact, citronella oil has nothing to do with oranges and lemons. Except, perhaps, a note in the smell, subtly reminiscent of these fruits.
Smell and color
Essential oil is extracted with steam from the stems and leaves of the plant. At the output of the production, citronella oil is obtained - a viscous liquid of dark honey color. Its coloring is reminiscent ofrange of colors of citrus oils.
The scent of young greenery dominates in the bouquet with peripheral bitter notes of lemon peel. The overall impression is a refreshing, toning fragrance with a woody-oily trail.
