"Steam, Gillette's safety razors, the rotation of the Earth around its axis - all this was discovered and invented by the Americans and partly by the British."
Mikhail Zoshchenko, Recorder.
About the brand
We all know such a brand as Gillette machines - razors that conquered both men and women. This item is great for getting rid of unwanted facial and body hair, as well as styling mustaches and beards. Machine tools that appeared at the beginning of the last century quickly gained popularity and recognition around the world. Fans of the satirical work "The Twelve Chairs" by I. Ilf and E. Petrov probably remember the saying that Gillette razors are unsurpassed in safety.
History of Creation
The Gillette brand belongs to the American multinational American company Procter & Gamble, which has been specializing since 1901 in the production of accessories for shaving and body care, as well as women's products. The founders of the company were candle maker William Procter and soap maker James Gamble. The inventor of the real razor and the company that bears the name of the brand is King Camp Gillette, who proved by his own example that objectshousehold items that are not of great value can bring success and prosperity to their creator due to the fact that they are often used in everyday life. Moreover, the fact that the brand owner himself received his first million at the age of 50 is noteworthy, because before the creation of machine tools he was a traveling salesman for half his life.
Incredible success
"The Razor King" Gillette tried all his life to invent at least something more or less interesting to ordinary people. But all his attempts did not end with the desired result. And then one day, standing on the porch of his house with an old-style razor in his hand, it suddenly dawned on him - after all, you can replace these bulky razor designs, which, of course, were distinguished by quality and elegance, but were not at all a practical household item due to their high cost. Thus was born the ingenious idea of the T-shaped modern razor. Having knocked on the thresholds of various technological institutes, King Camp Gillette found the most profitable formula for creating materials and found investors for this enterprise. In the first year, he managed to sell only 168 Gillette machines, which, however, did not dampen his desire, and the next year 60,000 machines were sold.
With the advent of the First World War, the need for razors and blades for soldiers increased dramatically. Thus, in 1917, 36 million blades were sold to the military. Gillette was taken over by Procter & Gamble in 1991.
Gillette Razor Systems - Stairway to Heaven
Track-2 and Gillette Atra were the first systems with two blades from the firstfloating head "Atra +". In the 1990s, the "Sensor" model was invented, with a steel design and a two-point swim head, the successor to which is still widely used today. The Mak-3 is the first machine with three blades, followed in 2004 by the Mak-1 Turbo system with ten combs instead of five. "Mak-3 Turbo" - the first machine with battery-operated vibration mode.
2007 marked the introduction of the Gillette Fusion machine. This system features 5 blades and a more comfortable handle. The latest version at the moment is the Gillette Proglide (5 blades, no vibration), which refers to the modification of the proglide power with vibration. It is in this model that the blades are placed very close to each other, which relieves pressure on each blade and ensures maximum comfort and minimum irritation. The Braun trimmer was invented to remove and trim hard-to-reach hairs. After the appearance on the market of a competitor in the face of the company Bic, Gillette had to release disposable machines that can also be thrown away after a single use.
Female counterparts
The line of women's consumer goods in this area is also very diverse. These are peculiar modifications of famous men's razors:
- Sensor Excel for women - unlike Sensor Excel has a more elegant handle
- Venus - the female version of "Mak3" with three levi
- Venus Divine - female version of "Mak3 Turbo" with three blades
