Finding the right dress size is not an easy task. In order for it to perfectly match your figure, you have to take into account many physical parameters. You need to know your height, chest, waist and hips, as well as learn how to correctly determine the appropriate size of the finished product from them.
Purchasing clothes in malls or online stores, many often cannot accurately determine the required size. "42" is a marking that means for women's clothing the volume along the chest line.
Characteristics of the Russian scale
The domestic dimensional grid has recently undergone some changes, and now it is close to the new proportions of a modern woman. However, if you are the owner of a non-standard figure, then finding the right clothing size is much more complicated.
You may have to forego ready-made dresses and buy a jacket and skirt in different sizes, or sew your own outfits to order. To choose the right dress, you first need to take individual measurements of the figure.
Today, mass clothing is made according to average female standards. The modern scale starts from 156 cm (earlier - from 160 cm). For example, for sewing a standard size 42 dress today, an average height of 168 cm is taken as the basis (before that it was 164 cm).
In the Russian Federation, clothing size is determined by the half-girth of the chest (for shoulder products) and hips (for waist products). In particular, the size of a dress according to Russian standards is defined as the chest circumference divided by 2. The standard size range from 40 to 60 has three fullness: small (M), medium (C) and large (B). For example, size 42 is shoulder wear for women with a chest volume of 84/2=42 cm. Starting from size 62, dresses are considered to be very large (OB). Half of the female population is of average fullness, outside the scale of 3.5% of our ladies.
How to decipher the numbers on the label?
Marking of dresses according to Russian standards contains 3 leading parameters: height, chest and hips. For fitted models (without a belt), the waist circumference is indicated. From additional values, completeness, product length, hip height, shoulder width, neck circumference, leg length, wrist circumference and others are indicated.
This information allows you to determine whether the clothes will fit you without trying them on. In order to correlate the marking of Russian clothing with our ownmeasurements, you need to multiply the number put on it by 2.
For example, if a dress made in the Russian Federation has size 42 on the label, it means that it will fit women with a bust size of 84 cm.
International size grid
Marking clothes according to the European size scale contains 2 leading parameters: height and chest circumference. To quickly bring the European standard to the Russian one, it is enough to add 6 units to the number indicating the girth of the chest. For example, a jacket with size 42 on the label is a product that is similar in measurements to domestic size 48. According to the international classification, such a dress will be marked with the letter M/L (from the English Medium/Large).
Size matching methods
To bring the Russian markings to the international one, you can use the size table or the online calculator for calculating the sizes of women's clothing. The second option is more convenient, because it allows you to accurately transform someone else's metric system in inches into the centimeter scale we are used to.
In addition, the calculator calculates the required size according to specific physical parameters. The correspondence of Russian and international dress sizes can also be determined from the table.
If all the measurements were taken correctly, then it will not be difficult to find out your size of a summer dress. For example, women's size 42 - is European 36, and international S, corresponding to the parameters 84-62-90 (chest - waist - hips). These values are averages, so your measurements maydiffer from the numbers on the label within 1 cm in one direction or another.
If your proportions do not correspond to height or differ from the standard ones, then when choosing clothes, focusing only on chest girth as the main criterion for determining size is unreasonable. If, for example, the bust in girth is 84 cm, and the hip girth is 94 cm according to measurements, the size of the dress is selected based on the larger value, that is, you need to purchase size 44.
