Choosing clothes is a scrupulous business. This is especially true for sizes. Nowadays, various measures are used. “The main thing is that the suit fits” - this concerns not so much the quality of the product as the right size. The designations according to American and European standards are too different from Russian ones. Our domestic firms use numbers to determine growth, volume, length, while foreign firms use letters.
Let's deal with the notation of dimension. Very often on imported clothes you can see S, M, L. The size of large clothes is marked with the letter X: XL, XXL, etc. What do they mean?
S size - small, M size - middle, L size - large, X - extra. Men's and women's clothing is marked in this way. But to indicate the dimension, numerical indicators are also used, which differ by gender and age.
The sizes of men's suits are marked with numerical indicators: 38, 40, 42 … These designations indicate the volume of the chest, which is expressed in inches. Men's suits also have such an indicator as length. It is measured from the collar to the bottom of the jacket. There are three categories: short, normal, long. Thus, the men's suit L is the size according toRussian standard - 48. According to the US standard, it will be 12 size.
The size of jeans is indicated by the letters W and L. The size indicates the waist and leg length, which is measured on the inside. Women's sizes are slightly different from men's. For example, jeans 28 W / 30 L. This means that they will fit a woman with a waist of 66 - 68.5 cm, a man who buys this size should have a waist of 68.5-70 cm, and the length of the legs in both case should be - 69.5–74.5 cm.
Headwear also comes in international sizes. Sizes L, M, S, XL, XXL are indicated in the same way as in clothes. They correspond to the circumference of the head, which is measured in centimeters.
Choosing the right size will help size chart. S, L, M, XL is an international measure that has its own correspondences according to American and Russian standards.
- S / 7 / 55-56;
- M / 7 ¼ / 56-57;
- L / 7 ½ / 58-59;
- XL / 7 ¾ / 60-61.
The Russian system of dimensions is determined by ½ chest girth. It is usually denoted by even numbers. The difference between the sizes is 2 cm, the difference in height is 6 cm. Domestic manufacturers also use four categories of fullness. This indicator determines the difference between the circumference of the chest and hips.
In order to take measurements correctly and know your exact dimensions, you need to turn to outside help, since it is almost impossible to do it qualitatively on your own. All measurements must be taken inrelaxed state, standing in one underwear. The measuring tape should not be too tight, but should be snug enough against the body.
Women's measurements of hips and chest girth are measured at the protruding points, and the waist, on the contrary, at the narrowest point. The male neck size is determined by a centimeter tape, which is placed above the 7th cervical vertebra. Their chest girth is measured along the lower corner of the shoulder blades and along the chest in the nipple area. The waist is measured over the pelvic bones. The measurement lines for women and men do not coincide, as they are at different levels.
If the garment is oversized or undersized, the dimensions may not match. In this case, you need to thoroughly familiarize yourself with the recommendations of the manufacturer.
