Shellac is a gel and polish at the same time. Such a manicure is durable, and you can remove the coating yourself. But for this you need to know how to remove shellac. There are two methods that involve the use of acetone. For the strongest effect, pure acetone is required. But you can also use nail polish remover with an acetone content of at least 60%. Other products are not suitable.
So, how to remove shellac at home?
First method:
- Pre-apply cuticle oil to the skin around the nails and rub it in thoroughly. Excess is removed with a cotton pad or napkin. Cuticle oil will protect the skin from the effects of acetone.
- An empty vessel is filled with acetone. The height from the bottom of the container to the top level of acetone is about 1.25 cm.
- Before removing shellac at home, you need to dip your hands in acetone, putting your fingers together. Make sure your nails are visible. Acetone is harmful to the skin, it greatly dehydrates it. Therefore, as few skin areas as possible are immersed in acetone. The duration of the procedure is about 10 minutes, even if the varnish begins to peel off earlier.
- 10 minutes later, the shellac is removed from the nails with a wooden stick. The stick is placed near the base of the nail and moved up, prying and removing the shellac. By repeating these movements, they achieve complete removal of the coating from each nail.
- You can start peeling shellac a little earlier without removing your fingers from the acetone container.
- After removing the cover, wash hands with warm water and soap. When washing, the remnants of varnish and acetone are removed.
- At the final stage, a nourishing cream, nail and cuticle oil is applied to the hands.
Second method:
- Before removing shellac at home, cut cotton pads and a sheet of foil into small squares that match the size of the nail plates of each finger. 10 squares with a side of 7.6 cm or more are prepared from aluminum foil. Instead of disks, small cotton balls are sometimes used. In this case, you should make sure that the size of the foil is large enough to secure them to the nail.
- Cuticle oil is rubbed into the skin near each nail to keep the skin from drying out.
- Discs or cotton balls are soaked in acetone and placed on the nails.
- Each nail is wrapped in foil. At the same time, the cotton square should be firmly fixed, which at the same time should not interfere with blood circulation in the fingers. The heat retained by the aluminum foil enhances the effect of the acetone or nail polish remover. pressing down on the nail, make sure the acetone is in contact with each of them.
- After 2-10 minutes, the shellac will peel off, and the cotton pads are removed from the nails. With longer contact with the nail, the cotton wool will dry out, and it will be more difficult to get rid of the coating. And how to remove shellac at home with adhering cotton wool without extra effort?
- Shellac nails are removed with an orange stick. The stick is moved from the base of the nail up. These movements are repeated until the coating is completely removed from each nail. The remains of shellac are removed with a cotton pad with acetone.
- Nails are polished if necessary. Sticky traces, white plaque are removed with a soft cloth.
- Wash hands with mild soap and water followed by cuticle softening cream and oil.
Having tried both methods, you will understand how to remove shellac correctly, and choose the most acceptable and convenient one. But, whatever method is used to remove nail polish, you should not forget to use a cream or lotion to moisturize and soften the skin of your hands.
