How to learn how to do makeup correctly? There is only one answer: practice as often as possible. But in order not to repeat the same mistakes over and over again, you need to familiarize yourself with the theoretical foundations, various techniques, and the stages of applying make-up in the correct sequence. So, how to do makeup at home?
Face shape
You need to start preparing by determining the shape of the face. How to do face makeup? Of course, using the “right” cosmetics, that is, the one that suits your skin type, and focusing on the shape of the face. There are special techniques that will help you visually hide a massive chin, highlight beautiful cheekbones or enlarge your eyes.
There are two ways to accurately determine the shape of the face (if you can not do it by eye). For the first, you will need a large mirror and a marker that is well washed off. Straighten your back and straighten your shoulders, remove your hair, look straight ahead in the mirror. Trace the contour of the face with a felt-tip pen, do notincluding ears and hair. Try not to move while doing this so that the contour is even. Now step aside and evaluate the resulting figure.
For the second method you will need a centimeter tape. Measure the forehead, jaws and cheekbones at their widest point, as well as the distance from the forehead to the chin. Then compare the results with the face type descriptions. The "pure" form is very rare, as a rule, variants of the main seven types come across. Determine which shape is closest to yours.
The ideal is an oval face, this is the shape we will strive for when applying makeup. Chubby young ladies are distinguished by their feminine appearance, and often look younger than their peers. Rectangular or elongated face shape is distinguished by a higher forehead and elongated cheekbones, while the owners of a square face have a clear chin line and pronounced cheekbones. Girls with triangular faces have a pointed chin, a wide and high forehead. A pear-shaped face (an inverted triangle) is the reverse shape of a triangle, characterized by a massive chin and a narrow forehead. A diamond-shaped face differs from an oval by prominent cheekbones, a narrow forehead and chin.
Skin type
Before applying make-up, you need to determine not only the shape of the face (the technique will depend on this, because the make-up should hide flaws and emphasize dignity), but also the type of skin. Products intended for oily skin, for example, are absolutely not suitable for dry or sensitive skin, so if you ignore the choice of the right cosmetics, you can end up with many problems as a result: redness,peeling, skin rashes and acne.
Recognizing oily skin is the easiest. It is dense and even a little rough in appearance, characterized by increased sebum secretion, oily sheen all over the face, enlarged pores, there is a tendency to the appearance of black spots and acne. Such skin causes a lot of problems in adolescence, but mimic wrinkles appear on it later.
Dry skin is thin, with small, almost imperceptible pores. Periodically, owners of this type of skin are worried about the feeling of tightness, dryness and peeling. At a young age, she looks great, but after 25 years she is prone to early aging and the appearance of facial wrinkles.
Normal skin is quite rare. This is an ideal case in which the skin is matte, the pores are small, they are barely visible in the central part of the face, and a slight sheen in the T-zone is characteristic. The condition of the skin in this case does not change depending on the phase of the menstrual cycle or the weather outside the window. The most common type is the combined one. Such skin combines areas of normal, oily and dry skin. It is characterized by the following:
- pores are visible only in the T-zone;
- sometimes blackheads and pimples appear (especially on the eve of critical days);
- oily sheen appears only in the T-zone;
- Acne may appear during adolescence, but such skin is not prone to premature aging.
Skin type is determined by genetics. It cannot be changed, but with age, the condition of the skin canchange. For example, after 30 years, even oily skin becomes drier, but dense skin will remain the same in 40 and 50 years.
Choice of cosmetics
How to do the right makeup? After determining the type and shape of the face, taking into account the characteristics of the skin, you need to choose cosmetics, namely the base for makeup (tonal foundation), moisturizer, corrector palette, lip gloss or lipstick, blush, mascara, pencil, eye shadow or eyebrow gel, cosmetics for the eyes.
It is important to consider how appropriate makeup will be in a particular case. An evening make-up is distinguished by brightness, saturation, brilliance, requires the use of thermal water or a special fixative, while the daytime one should be barely noticeable, natural. All shades should be in harmony with eye color and skin tone. According to the consistency, you need to rely on the type of skin: for dry, oil-based products are needed, and for oily, it is better to give preference to crumbly cosmetics.
You will also need makeup brushes. Required minimum:
- Foundation brush. Foundation can be applied with your fingers, a sponge, or a trendy beauty blender, but the only way to achieve truly invisible coverage is with a brush.
- Powder brush. It should be large and fluffy so that the powder can be applied to the face in an even, invisible layer.
- Blush brush. Cream or liquid blush can be applied by hand or with a special flat brush, powder blush can be applied bevelled. Any powder cosmetic product first needsapply to the brush, then shake off all excess, make the first touch on the hand and only then apply to the face.
- Eyeshadow brush. Cream shadows can be applied with your fingers in a few minutes. For a daily make-up with loose shadows, two brushes are enough: the larger one is useful for the base, which will cover the entire eyelid, the smaller one is needed for spot application.
- Lipstick brush. When the lipstick wears off, it takes more time to accurately color the lips. This problem can be solved if you get a special brush.
Cleansing and moisturizing
How to do facial makeup? Start by cleansing and moisturizing your skin. It is necessary to thoroughly cleanse the skin of the remnants of cosmetics, refresh with tonic, micellar water or other suitable product, then apply a caring cream. Oily skin needs a mattifier, while dry skin needs a moisturizer. You should wait until the product is completely absorbed. As a rule, 5 minutes is enough for this. Skin must be dry before applying cosmetics.
Concealer for problem skin
How to do makeup at home? Problematic skin needs to mask imperfections, so this is where you need to start. Happy owners of normal skin without age spots, redness, pimples and other visible problems can skip this step.
Concealers are available as sticks, palettes, applicators, tubes or pencils. For point correction, you will need a hard stick, dry ones are designed to prepare the face for applying evening makeup, and meanswater-based or oil-based is better to use for everyday make-up. Oil-based cosmetics are suitable for dry skin, water-based cosmetics are suitable for oily skin.
Green corrector is used to mask red pimples, purple spots and blue streaks on the skin can be covered with yellow, an earthy complexion is restored with a pink or red stick, and orange stains from self-tanning can be masked with a purple corrector. "Colored" sticks should be used for spot application. Concealer, which is a tone lighter than the main skin tone, masks the most common problem - bags and dark circles under the eyes. With the same shade, if necessary, you can work out the nasolabial folds.
Tone equalization
Modern tonal products are usually a versatile product that not only evens out the shade, but also retains moisture on the surface of the skin. Problematic and dry skin needs a dense tonal foundation (especially for evening make-up), but oily skin needs light, almost weightless products that do not "weight" the face. In any case, it is better to choose a product with a yellow undertone. This shade will hide redness. But the pink undertone in daylight often turns into an unhe althy complexion.
The real boom in the cosmetic market is BB-, CC- and DD-creams, and some brands have gone even further and created EE- (this tone is still only available in Russia under the Estee Lauder brand) and FF-creams. BB creams moisturize the skin, even out the color, mask minor defects, and eventreat inflammation. SS is better pigmented, has a high SPF factor. DDs don't mask imperfections. This is a sunscreen only and should be used over your base moisturizer and foundation.
