Alexander Ivanovich Arutyunov - a famous surgeon of the Soviet period. He was the director of such educational institutions as: the Institute of Neurosurgery of the Ukrainian SSR (from 1950 to 1964) and the Institute of Neurosurgery named after N. N. Burdenko (from 1964 to 1975). Born in Yerevan on 1903-21-12. In the city of Rostov-on-Don, he graduated from the North Caucasian University in 1929.
Immediately after graduating from university, I worked as a doctor for a year in a regular district clinic in the Mari Republic. In 1930, Alexander Ivanovich Arutyunov was invited to work as a surgeon in the clinic of N. A. Bogoraz, which was located in Rostov-on-Don. But he worked there for a very short time. In 1932, he became a graduate student at the N. N. Burdenko polyclinic. Upon graduation, he was a practicing doctor at the Neurosurgical Institute until the beginning of the Second World War, at the same time he worked as a doctor at the Central Research Institute, and also held the position of head of the department of neurosurgery inpolyclinic of S. P. Botkin.
During the Great Patriotic War, he was an active surgeon of the 6th and 9th Southern Front Armies, since 1941 he was the main surgeon of the front in the North. Caucasus, since 1943 he was a surgeon of the South-Western and 3rd Ukrainian Front. In 1945 he was a consultant at the Main Military Investigation Department.
Since 1945, he was the head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Kyiv University, 5 years later he was on the list of organizers of the Ukrainian Research Institute. In 1964 he became director of the N. N. Burdenko Neurosurgical Institute.
In 1967 he was on the list of academicians of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences.
The life and work of Alexander Ivanovich Arutyunov took place in the city of Moscow. The scientist died in 1975 and was buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery.
