For women, the shape of the face is the basis, knowing which, you can accurately choose a hairstyle, makeup, headdress or other accessory. Without knowledge of determination methods, it may be difficult to independently identify your own form, since some of them are similar to each other.
In order not to get confused completely and correctly determine the shape of your face, you should use the existing methods.
Oval and round shapes
There are 7 kinds of face shapes in nature: oval, round, square, rectangular, diamond-shaped, triangular and pear-shaped.
The oval type is considered the reference. This is because you can choose any hairstyle, makeup, etc. for it. An oval face has its own characteristics:
- the length from chin to forehead is greater than the width from one cheekbone to the other;
- jaw width is almost the same as forehead width;
- rounded chin, slightly tapered;
- cheekbones are pointed, but not massive.
This shape is also called ovoid because it resembles an egg upside down.
A round face shape differs from an oval one in that:
- its length and width are almost identical;
- cheekbones are the mosta large part, but not weighing down the appearance of the face;
- low forehead;
- chin narrowed and rounded;
- hairline is smooth and rounded.
The owners of this type of face look younger and more feminine for longer. All thanks to the fact that the round shape of the face visually rejuvenates.
Square, rectangular and diamond-shaped
Square face shape has the same length and width measurements. The forehead is wide and overhanging. The hairline is straight, without rounding. The chin, jaw and cheekbones are pointed and have a prominent square shape.
The rectangular shape of the face of men and women is expressed by greater length in relation to width. The width of the chin, jaw, cheekbones and forehead is the same. The rectangular type, like the square shape of the face, is immediately visible. Not every hairstyle and makeup suits them.
The owners of such faces try in every possible way to hide the massiveness of the jaw and chin, trying to give the shape more rounded features.
You can distinguish a diamond-shaped face from others by the following features:
- outstanding wide cheekbones;
- pointy chin;
- Forehead shaped like a cone, not wide.
The owners of such faces, in order to visually "smooth" and soften the features, should wear hairstyles that will visually expand the forehead and narrow the cheekbones.
The second name of the diamond type is diamond.
Triangular andpear-shaped
The triangular shape of the face is characterized by the following:
- narrowed chin;
- wide forehead, which can sometimes match the width of the cheekbones;
- face width is slightly shorter than length.
Facial features are clear, cheekbones are pronounced, cheeks are often sunken. The second name of this variety is heart-shaped.
Pear shape is less common than other face types. You can distinguish it by a massive bottom: the cheekbones and jaw are voluminous.
Similar to pear-shaped is trapezoid. The only difference is that the first is more rounded and soft, while the second is endowed with clear facial features. But in both cases, the bottom is devoid of pronounced jaw angles.
To visually reduce the bottom of the presented variety of the face, you need to choose the right haircut and makeup.
Can you determine the shape of the face yourself?
It often happens that a new haircut or a new make-up does not suit their owner at all. This gives rise to frustration and the logical question: "Why so?". And the thing is that the chosen image is completely incompatible with the shape of the face.
Before you go to the stylist, you should determine your type yourself. This will make it easier to understand what exactly fits. You can determine your type at home, without resorting to outside help. You can use it in several ways:
- With the help of a mirror.
- Using a measuring tape.
- "4measurement".
Determination using a mirror
Find out what shape of face you have, you can use a large mirror, but not a small mirror. Approach your reflection at a distance of half a meter or a little closer, so that your hand can easily reach the mirror.
Take an erasable marker or bright lipstick. Remove all excess hair from the face, pin up the bangs. Straighten your posture and tilt your head back a little.
Standing straight, preferably without moving, trace the outline of your face, starting from the chin, continuing on the cheekbones and the contour of the forehead, ending with a line on the chin. Ears do not need to circle at all. Consider the resulting contour. Determine which parts are wider and which are narrower. What shape is the forehead, cheekbones and chin: angular or rounded? Straight or rounded hairline. After assessing all these factors, a figure corresponding to the shape of your face will begin to clearly emerge.
Measuring with measuring tape
To make this measurement you will need the following:
- sewing measuring tape (a tape measure will not work, because it is hard and it will not be possible to make accurate measurements of the face);
- pen and paper;
- a mirror in a well-lit room.
On paper, write down the following indicators: forehead, face length, cheekbones and jaw. Now go to the mirror and take measurements:
- Apply the tape to the outer corner of the left eye and stretch it to the outer corner of the right. But the tape should not cover the eyes when measuring, it must be lowered tocheekbones. Write the resulting indicator in the "cheekbones" column.
- Next, attach the tape to the most protruding point of the jaw (it is located a couple of centimeters below the ear) and bring it to the chin. Double the resulting number and write the result in the "jaw" column.
- Apply the tape to the widest part of the forehead and stretch it horizontally to the same opposite. This will be the width of the forehead.
- Finally, measure the length of the face. Place the tape at the top midpoint of the forehead at hairline and pull down the nose to the prominent point of the chin. This is an indicator of the "length of the face".
Now it remains to decipher the received measurements:
- If the width turned out to be less than the length, and the forehead, jaw and cheekbones are almost the same, then this is either an oval type or a rectangular one. It will be possible to determine by the chin: in the oval type it is narrowed and rounded, and in the rectangular type it is angular.
- If the length of the face turned out to be 3-4 cm more than the width of the cheekbones, and the shape of the chin is pointed and angular, then your face shape is a triangle.
- Square and round face types are similar in that the length and width are almost the same with a difference of 1-2 cm. But the square shape has a pronounced wide and pointed jaw, and the "circle" type is rounded.
- A diamond-shaped face has the largest width of the cheekbones in relation to others.
- Pear face is large in the jaw and cheekbones. Their width is greater than the width of the forehead. The bottom of the face is rounded, does not containno corners or points.
Four measurements
There is another reliable way to determine your face shape. It's called "four measurements". The method is carried out by horizontal measurements of the following parts of the face: the width of the forehead, the lower line of the eyes, the upper line of the lips and one vertical one: from the upper central part of the forehead, going down the nose, and to the protruding part of the chin.
After you can start decoding measurements:
- if the cheekbone size is 50% or more of the vertical dimension, then the shape of the face is triangular, oval or diamond;
- if the width of the cheekbones and the length of the face are equal or differ by 1-2 cm, then the type of face is a square or a circle;
- if the width of the cheekbones is less than the vertical measurement, then the type is a rectangle;
- if the width of the forehead is greater than the measurements of the cheekbones and upper lip line, then we are talking about a triangular shape;
- if cheekbone measurements are larger than other horizontal measurements, then one of the following shapes is assumed: rhombus, oval or circle;
- if the upper lip line is larger than the rest of the horizontal measurements, then the type of face is "pear".

After all, often a modern and fashionable haircut is not suitable for everyone, and all because it does not match the type of face.
