Fashion in the USSR is quietly but surely returning to modern trends. Refined silhouettes, hidden sexuality and colorful colors - all this again conquers domestic designers. Well, it's a great time to get inspired by the fashion of the 80s, delve into the very origins and design fresh Soviet outfits in a modern way.
Post-revolutionary and pre-war trends
At the first time after the October Revolution of 1917, unisex made itself felt. The girls of that century needed to work efficiently and move quickly, and it was very difficult to do this in the toilets of noblemen or bourgeoisie. Fashion in the USSR, on the other hand, took into account the moment of comfort, which is why it was necessary to create a universal suit for a typical Soviet person.
So, the standard image was:
- top - an ordinary shirt without any decorative elements;
- bottom – straight skirt without pleats or cutouts.
Often the highlight was an aviation leather jacket and matching caps. The must-have wastunic and leather belt (for both women and men).
In parallel with equality in clothing, the Nepman style was preached. This direction borrowed a shirt dress with a low waist from the French. Until the thirties, the little thing was in great demand. Girls diluted the outfit with long beads and smoking pipes.
30s were marked by the release of quality fabrics at affordable prices: satin, silk, crepe de chine and chintz. The first association with this period is a small crepe de chine dress with a small floral print.
Fashion in the USSR during the forties was in step with European trends, and it felt the precursor of danger, tragedy. Romantic blouses with puffed sleeves and airy dresses were combined with military themes, namely epaulettes, pleats at the back and wide belts.
Post-war period
During the fighting of the Second World War, they did not particularly focus on fashion trends. But after the Victory, fashion in the USSR acquired a new eternal trend - a harmonious combination of delicate feminine details with coarse wardrobe elements. For example, a silk skirt with a soft blouse and a man's jacket (button jacket) was worn by every self-respecting girl.
Everything remained on the same wave until one event - the first foreign show in Moscow of the Dior fashion house. With this came the new look in the USSR, which every fashion magazine of the Soviet era ridiculed. The main features of this trend were:
- lack of padded shoulders;
- fitted bodice withraised bust;
- high waist.
Such parameters demanded from the Soviet woman not only productivity at work, but also grace during leisure. Now the versatile wardrobe has diversified with skirts, stockings, bras, high heels and a host of accessories.
The riot of the palette was brought in by fartsov and their clients - dudes. The youth wore bright fashionable clothes from foreign shops. They were easily recognizable by their piping trousers, broad-shouldered jackets, herring ties, and cane umbrellas. Girls, on the other hand, showed off their hips with tight pencil skirts.
Thaw
One of the fundamental pieces was the miniskirt. Yes, yes, in strict times, and she found a use for herself. At first, the government and the old generation took this trend with hostility. It came to measuring the length before lessons: if the skirt was even a centimeter shorter than allowed, you could safely go change clothes and retake passes. Later, people still reconciled and normally treated the open female legs.
The sixties brought the legendary stiletto pumps. The most successful look - a tight skirt, a turtleneck and pumps in a black palette - aroused interest and a desire to discover the mystery hidden behind such a successful image.
Silk has been replaced by nylon and vinyl fabrics, which have successfully taken root in the creation of men's shirts and women's blouses (immediately associated with school proms and unnaturally huge suits).
Stagnation and restructuring infashion trends
The fashion of the 70s of the USSR is primarily associated with denim (what else?). Then the townspeople sought to buy all the jeans from the black market. And if it was flared trousers… Flared jeans were considered an indicator of a fashionable and self-respecting girl.
Actor Gojko Mitic and his famous westerns are reflected in women's style. Now cowboy motifs have conquered fashion magazines. Woolen skirts in a wide check, long satin skirts with beautiful flounces and small flowers were the first on the list of fashionable purchases (after all, you need to go on a cherished date in something). The finishing touch was a sheepskin coat trimmed with natural fur.
Studs have gone far into oblivion (pantry). They were replaced by platform shoes. Metal decorations and puffy boots were welcome.
The fashion of the 80s has become a complete correspondence to the period of stagnation in the economy and in public life. Bright colors and contrasting finishes faded into the background, moderation was now valued. Midi skirts and dresses, banana trousers and broad-shouldered blazers typified the decade.
The main thing is proper styling
The hairstyles of the USSR are unmatched. Modern curls and perfectly straight hair in those days would not have been able to surprise anyone. Now we are not talking about chemistry, but about the styling of Jacques Dessange, which adorned the incredible actress of the last century - Brigitte Bardot.
The hairstyle in question is a babette. The girls who watched the film Babette Goesto the war”, were inspired by the image of the main character and began to repeat the manipulations with the hair. To be honest, not everyone managed to convey all the charm and beauty of this hairstyle, but it was still necessary to follow the trends.
Denim is the head of everything
Something, and denim will really last forever. The development of Soviet socialism cannot do without jeans in all their variations. One can even say that this material can be used to study the history of the USSR: by analyzing prices for various models, to determine the economic state of the country, evaluating the fight against this trend (because it deviated from the generally accepted image of the Soviet person), to reveal the features of the Criminal Code.
Different colors, textile quality and endless variations lured people into buying even more jeans (for the whole family).
Well, it's probably worth thanking the youth that at the student festival in 1957 they changed their tired earflaps and strict skirts for loose and such alien denim.
To sports with socks
In the Soviet Union, the fashion for colorful leggings began because of the American actress and fitness trainer - Jane Fonda. Her videotapes with her own lessons and aerobics flooded the world market and even the socialist camp. The young ladies immediately highly appreciated both the training itself and the cool leggings.
Over time, the most active and successful citizens themselves penetrated television with their own sports program. What was the symbol of perestroika.
So, socks were no longer tied to sports. Describedaccessories have become a must when visiting discos! Bright and noticeable color, striped pattern and pumped up legs guaranteed close attention from the strong half of humanity.
Faux Fur
Now everyone will be surprised, because the trend towards environmentally friendly materials and the fight against the killing of animals gained momentum only in 2017. But no, the people of the USSR were enterprising and took care of their smaller brothers in the last century.
In the early sixties, the era of faux fur began. Fur coats made of synthetic materials attracted designers and were very popular among all walks of life. Even those who could easily purchase natural furs gave money for their substitutes.
It should be noted that such things were not at all practical. Fur coats did not withstand the Soviet winters and did not retain heat. And as soon as the manufacturers corrected these shortcomings, the trend went out of fashion.
Rainy raincoats
Bologna raincoat is a little dream of a true connoisseur of the style of modernity and the times of the USSR. The thing owes its fame to the charming French actor Alain Delon. Firstly, this man became the sex symbol of Soviet women; secondly, his style was inherited by everyone who was not lazy.
The guys focused on raincoats made of synthetic fabrics, which were created from nylon with water-repellent properties. This topic was supported by many ateliers and even officials who managed to start production at local factories.
Late seventies raincoatsliked the girls too. This is very simply due to the practicality and aesthetics of the little thing. The raincoat could be combined with sweatpants and sneakers. Or create a feminine look, emphasizing the mystery and sexuality with the help of stocking boots in the USSR.
Bat shirt
The batch shirt appeared in the fifties and became a real hit only in the seventies. This is a simple turn down collar blouse that can be seen on everyone these days. At first, only office workers and officials loved her, looking at the simplicity of design and the uniformity of textiles.
Already during the thaw and perestroika, body shirts began to decorate floral prints, vertical lines, pockets and other decorative elements. The outerwear element was very effective with puffy skirts, which emphasized the waistline, and with jeans, which were very comfortable and versatile.
Flare for prominent legs
Flared trousers are one of the wonderful examples of fashionable insanity in the USSR. Flared pants came to the country along with the music and video clips of the legendary British band The Beatles. The supernatural passion for their music went unnoticed, but the style of the famous quartet "flickered" on the inhabitants of the USSR for a long time.
Flared trousers were worn by everyone without exception. The flare was very different: from the hip, from the knee or from the ankle. Different lengths and variety of textures made it possible to wear pants with or without a reason: to the office, on a date, for a walk, and even to school. By the way, it is in educational institutionsteachers and commandants checked the permissible width of the flare (about 31 centimeters).
Now it is noticeable that the fashion of the USSR is returning, and not in single details, but in a complex way. With all jeans, rough jackets and shoes with socks. So, if you have an old pair of your favorite flare pants lying around in your wardrobe, then it's time to get them out, add some freshness to your pants with trendy jewelry and a beaming smile.
